Privacy Policy

We're pretty straightforward about how we handle your info

Last updated: October 20, 2025

Look, we get it - nobody really enjoys reading these things. But since we're asking you to trust us with designing structures that'll protect you from Pacific storms, figured we should be upfront about how we handle your personal information too.

What We Collect

When you reach out to us or use our website, we might collect:

  • Your name, email, phone number - basically the stuff you give us when filling out contact forms
  • Project details and location info if you're inquiring about our services
  • IP addresses and browser data through standard web analytics (we use this to see which pages people actually look at)
  • Cookies for keeping the site functional - nothing creepy, just the usual web stuff

How We Use Your Information

We're not in the business of selling data - we're architects. Here's what we actually do with your info:

  • Respond to your inquiries (pretty obvious, right?)
  • Schedule consultations and site visits
  • Send project updates if we're working together
  • Occasionally share relevant news about storm-resistant design practices - but only if you've said that's cool
  • Improve our website based on how people use it

Sharing Your Data

We don't sell or rent your information. Period.

Sometimes we might share details with:

  • Engineers and consultants who we collaborate with on projects - but only what's necessary for the work
  • Legal authorities if required by Canadian law
  • Service providers who help us run the website (hosting companies, email services, etc.) - they're contractually obligated to keep things confidential

Cookies & Tracking

Yeah, we use cookies - not the chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. They help us understand how visitors interact with our site. Most browsers let you control cookies through settings, though disabling them might make some features wonky.

We use analytics tools to see things like which portfolio projects get the most views or how people found us. It's all aggregated data - we're not tracking individuals around the internet.

Your Rights

Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA and all that), you've got rights:

  • Ask what data we have about you
  • Request corrections if something's wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information (with some legal exceptions)
  • Opt out of marketing emails anytime
  • Lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you think we've messed up

Just shoot us an email at contact@darkstormhaven.info if you want to exercise any of these rights.

Data Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect your data - SSL encryption, secure servers, limited staff access, the works. But let's be honest, nothing online is 100% secure. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security (nobody can, despite what they tell you).

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep information as long as necessary for the purposes outlined above, or as required by law. For active projects, that means throughout the project and for several years after (building codes and liability stuff). For general inquiries, we typically keep records for about two years unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Third-Party Links

Our site might link to other websites - supplier sites, building code resources, that sort of thing. Once you click away from our site, we're not responsible for their privacy practices. Check their policies if you're curious.

Changes to This Policy

We might update this policy from time to time - usually when laws change or we add new services. We'll post the updated version here with a new date at the top. For major changes, we'll try to let you know directly if we have your contact info.
